Admission Requirements and Regulations

For admission to the Faculty, the applicant must have obtained the Egyptian General Secondary Education Certificate in either the Scientific Section (Science or Mathematics) or the Literary Section, or an equivalent Arab or foreign certificate recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities, in accordance with the regulations determined by the Ministry of Higher Education. International students holding certificates equivalent to the Egyptian General Secondary Education Certificate and recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities may also be admitted. 

Transfer students enrolled in faculties of Egyptian or foreign universities, or in higher institutes operating under the credit hour system and recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities, may be admitted provided that the student fulfills the Faculty admission requirements. An academic equivalency review shall be conducted, and the successfully completed credit hours may be counted according to the approved equivalency. Admission is subject to the approval of the Faculty Council and ratification by the President of the University. 

In all cases, admission requirements shall be governed by the provisions of the Universities Regulation Law No. 49 of 1972 and its Executive Regulations, Law No. 12 of 2009 concerning Private and National Universities and its Executive Regulations, as well as all decisions issued by the Supreme Council of Universities in this regard. Student enrollment shall only take place at the beginning of either of the two main semesters: the First Semester (Fall) and the Second Semester (Spring). 

Study System

Language of Instruction: English language. The Faculty Council may approve teaching some courses in the Arabic language. 

Duration of Study: The normal duration of study for a regular student is ten main academic semesters. It may be reduced in the case of outstanding students whose academic standing permits the registration of more credit hours than their peers, in accordance with Article (19) of the Bylaws. The academic year consists of three semesters as follows: 

  • First Semester (Fall): Study duration shall not be less than 14 weeks.  
  • Second Semester (Spring): Study duration shall not be less than 14 weeks.  
  • Summer Semester: Study duration shall not be less than 7 intensive weeks, during which the number of weekly teaching hours allocated to each course is doubled.  

Study System and Degree Requirement

The Faculty follows the credit hour system. To obtain the degree, the student must fulfill the following requirements: 

  • Successfully complete courses equivalent to 144 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.00.  
  • Successfully complete the graduation project.  
  • Successfully complete University Requirements courses totaling 8 credit hours, which are not counted the 144 credit hours required for obtaining the Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and Design.  

Courses assessed on a Pass/Fail basis shall not be included in the cumulative GPA, such as Human Rights and Community Issues, and Summer Training.
